Vimeo Setup Tips

Note: This article is intended for Administrator level Vimeo setup in Jujama. For tips on Video formats in regards to usage in the Jujama conference apps, please see https://support.jujama.com/article/63-video-formats-help.

Vimeo Video URLs are used in the Stream URL field for session items in Jujama and also in various other areas, such as the social feed or profile videos.  It is important to use the correct permissions on the Vimeo side permission settings. Also, there are some differences between using Vimeo vs Vimeo Live. Review the below and remember it is important to test whichever method you use on mobile and web to be sure all works as intended

      Standard Vimeo

      Standard Vimeo Permissions

      • Note that changing permissions may change the URL, so set the permissions before entering the URL in Jujama.
      • You may use domain restriction, if desired this should be set to "Jujama.com". These can be entered anywhere in Jujama Admin, including session stream URLs, Profile/Company Videos, and Social feed videos. (Note that for domain restricted video these can not be uploaded from the user side - this is an admin only option)
      • You may use either the main Vimeo URL or the embed URL. If you enter the main Vimeo URL, we will convert it to the proper embed URL automatically.
      • Vimeo offers the following permissions which are shown below with sample link formats for the embed URL. See URL section below for obtaining the correct URL. If the main URL is used instead of of embed URL, the videos will fail to play on mobile.
        • Unlisted
          • This can be embedded for a Jujama session and also has a publicly accessible Vimeo page with a private (slightly obfuscated) address. The public Vimeo page is not listed in the Vimeo directory or made available to search engines.
        • Hide from Vimeo
          • This can be embedded for a Jujama session. This will NOT have a public Vimeo page associated.
        • Password
          • Require the user the enter a password. This will embed properly and prompt for a password.
        • Private
          • This is not usable within Jujama as it requires the user to be logged in to a Vimeo account associated to the video.
        • Public
          • This can be embedded and the video will be listed in the Vimeo directory and will be fully publicly accessible, listed in the Vimeo directly, and accessible to search engines.
      • For a matrix of Vimeo permissions with more details, see this article.
      • The above permissions are set in the right column, under 'Privacy' settings.
      • You must also allow the option "Embed" to "Anywhere" or, if domain restriction is required you may set this to "Specific Domains" and then  "jujama.com" as the domain.

      • Further options for embedding are available under the advanced settings area accessed from gear icon on the right side menu and then the "advanced" button at the bottom.  Here, under the  "Embed" and "Interaction Tools" options, you can control default settings for the embedded player, such as whether full screen is allowed, playbar or volume control visibility, end screen behavior, etc,

      Vimeo Live

Most of the Vimeo Live URL formats are the similar to standard Vimeo URLs. Although Jujama will convert most Vimeo Live main URLs, it it always safest to use the embed version of the URL to avoid any conversion issues. If you use the main Vimeo Live URL all normally convert internally in Jujama to the correct format, with the exception ,of URLs for recurring events. For recurring type events, you should always provide the embed URL and not the main URL

Note: Customers sending Vimeo Live URLs via API pulls should only provide the embedded format to prevent any conversion issues.

Domain restriction is possible, but proper operation should be verified on the mobile apps.

      Vimeo LIve Permissions

      • Note that changing permissions may change the player URL, so set permissions before entering the URL in Jujama.
      • Vimeo Live offers the following permissions which are shown below with sample link formats for the main URL and embed URL. To obtain the embed URL, see the Vimeo tips section below.

        • Private Link
        • Hide from Vimeo
          • This can be embedded on other sites but the link isn't visible in Vimeo public directory. This method will NOT embed on mobile using either URL. This appears to possibly be a bug in Vimeo since this permission level embed properly with standard Vimeo.
        • Public
        • Only me - not tested
        • Password - Not tested
      • Permissions are set under the event tab, under 'Viewing Privacy'

      Other Vimeo Live Tips
      • The embed URL can be found under the 'Embed Tab', then the "Event Embed Code' button.
      • Turning off on screen view counts
        • In order to hide your live viewer count for your embedded live streams, you can go to your Account Settings, then to the Videos, and select Upload Defaults. There, you'll be able to check the box for "Hide video stats and viewer count on the video page and in search results." This setting will disable the live viewer count for all future embedded live streams. See: https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040837872-Embed-your-event-on-your-website
      • Live event recordings
        • In most cases, the URL used for the live event, will also work after the event as the playback URL for the video. (As long as you have this feature enabled in Vimeo)  If you've selected a recurring event versus a one-time event, the last event video will be played. In this case, you can also later obtain the specific URL from the Vimeo recording to point to the correct recurring event video.
        • Vimeo Live Event permissions will be inherited to the Vimeo Recording.
